It Really is a Small World and Sometimes Things Just Work Out

First we were talking about Scott Garlock being called to Boise right when Nick opened his mission call. A few weeks later, we went to a farewell of Nick's friend he had re-connected with at college, and we were wondering what had happened to the third person in their three year old play group, Will Lassen. Nick found out that his MTC companion from Thousand Oaks is one of Will's best friends. In his branch at the MTC was another childhood friend he'd lost touch with, Jordan Lusk. Then he went to Boise and got his first companion there, Ryan Kraus. He knew Ryan from our ward in Portola Hills (eleven years ago).

I found out that the missionaries get to call home from the Salt Lake airport when departing for the mission field, then I realized that was the day we would be flying most of the day. I was so upset to think that we might miss the opportunity to talk to Nick. When he sent me his flight plan, I couldn't believe how it worked out. We touched down for a one and a half hour lay over at exactly the time Nick was checking in for his flight in Salt Lake. So he was able to reach us on a cell phone, which was good since we were all together and he wouldn't have to call us all separately. I never imagined how great it would be to get a call from Nick, but it was. Just ask his friend Tyler...Nick hung up from us to make a quick call to Tyler who leaves for his mission to Singapore in September. Since it was 6:30 am in California, Tyler looked at the phone, then went back to sleep. Later he wrote on facebook "missed a call that will haunt me for two years." I was so glad we got our call!
