This week I got updates on three different people Nick and Elder Nelson are teaching. One is Skyler, who served jail time with Lil Wayne. He stopped returning the missionaries' phone calls, but they ran into him and Nick talked some stuff out with him and sorted through his issues, so he might start taking the lessons again.
Another is Robert, a 16 year old who says he's taking the lessons with real intent and sincerety, but he lays down on the pews during church. So why is he taking the lessons? Robert's mom is a member, and she made a deal with him that if he doesn't feel anything after six weeks of taking the lessons, he can stop going to church. So Nick didn't tell him they usually only teach one lesson a week, but told him they would meet with him three times a week. Robert thinks faith is a joke, and is into science and evolution. He says he would join the church if the missionaries could show him proof. Nick says they have shown him lots of proof, but he doesn't care or listen. So Nick says next time they meet, they're going to call him out on some things.
And they're teaching the Van Bussem Family, the "coolest family they teach." Nick says they're making lots of headway with them and it will be awesome if they get baptized. But Nick thinks he may be transferred before he gets to see them get baptized.
Then there are the pesky sister missionaries. There are two that call Nick and Elder Nelson multiple times a day...for nothing. They stole the elders' area book and left a note saying they would return it if they gave them ice cream. So Nick called them and told them to bring it back within 30 minutes or else! They brought it back and brought the elders ice cream ("get beat")!
Nick said this was a slow week and he should have more to tell next time.
